2019 was the pilot year of the Bees@Schools program. We received 44 successfully installed nest boxes at the end of the summer, and got to work developing and confirming the protocols required to process them.

The program had its fair share of obstacles which delayed getting results out, but despite a pandemic shutting down our lab for months, we are pleased to present out pilot year insect IDs!

The document below outlines a bit of background on the program as well as some general information about the types of insects present. Then, there is a list of each occupied nest box and all insect species found. Check it out!

The map below shows the location of all successfully installed nest boxes in 2019. Green nests were occupied and blue nests were unoccupied. Remember, an unoccupied nest doesn’t mean there are no bees around! Take a look at the blog post here for more on that.
